A local business is rallying area residents to donate cash and other items that flood victims will need.

For the next two weeks, Hideout Harley Davidson in Joplin is collecting items such as non-perishable foods, water, toiletries, diapers and baby formula. But owners say don’t send clothing. Hideout Harley Davidson is teaming up with three of its other Harley locations in Louisiana and south Texas.

General Manager Steve Lippert says Joplin is good to answer the call for help.

“Joplin has been very good supporting hideout in their efforts, or our efforts i should say, and I pray that continues. It’s a blessing, it really is, it’s a blessing to people that we’ll never even meet, but it’s something that they need desperately, they really do.”

Lippert also says this relief effort is a person one.

“I have a particular passion cause I lived in Southeast Texas about twelve miles north of the gulf and I went through three major hurricanes and there was a big outpouring of help, so obviously we want to carry that forward. It’s what America’s about. Helping one another.”

Donations will be packed into a truck to send to North Carolina.

Donations can be left at Hideout Harley Davidson during regular store hours.
