Gumbo Recipe


1 large onion, diced
2 bell peppers, diced
1 jalapeno pepper, diced
2 cups okra, sliced
3 celery ribs, sliced
1 lb. Sunshine Farms bratwurst, halved and sliced
2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts, halved
1/2 lb. shrimp, tuna, or whitefish (optional)
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 teaspoons each: oregano, basil, thyme, black pepper, paprika, chili powder
1 teaspoon each: salt, red pepper flakes
3 cups chicken stock
3 cups rice (for serving)

Put all vegetables, meat, liquid, and spices into the slow cooker. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 5 hours. 30 minutes before serving, take chicken breasts out and shred them on cutting board with knife and fork; add back to slow cooker. Serve by ladling gumbo into bowls and spooning 1/2 cup of rice into the middle of the bowl.
