Governor Nixon discusses Medicaid reform in Joplin

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon made a stop in Carthage on Wednesday to talk about reforming Medicaid.

The governor spoke at Mercy Hospital to talk about his Medicaid proposal. Nixon says it would bring an additional $5.7 billion to Missouri and provide health coverage to an additional 300,000 Missourians and create 24,000 jobs in the next three years.

“In order to get health care you should get a job, not quit a job,” says Governor Nixon. “We really need to make sure, especially in those folks that are working very very hard, that we are doing everything we can to assist them to move forward.”

The governor says hospitals in the area could lose out on as much as $82 million a year if the expansion is not passed.
