Gorillas #9 in MIAA Preseason VB Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team was selected in a tie for ninth place in the 2018 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Coaches Poll released Thursday (Aug. 16).
The University of Nebraska-Kearney, the defending MIAA regular season and tournament champions, received eight of 11 first-place votes (one member school did not return a ballot) and 108 points to earn the preseason No. 1 ranking. Missouri Western State University was picked second with two first-place votes and 94 points, while the University of Central Oklahoma was tabbed third with 92 points.
The University of Central Missouri (85 pts), Washburn University (72 pts, one first-place vote), Northwest Missouri State University (67 pts), Lindenwood University (60 pts), and Emporia State University (50 pts) occupied positions four through eight. The Gorillas, who posted a 7-24 overall record and 3-15 mark in MIAA play a year ago, received 30 points to land in a tie for ninth place in the poll with Missouri Southern State University.
Pitt State opens the regular season action Friday, Aug. 24, at the two-day Christian Brothers University Invitational at Memphis, Tenn.
