Gorilla Women Upset No. 23 UCO, 84-71

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University women’s basketball team hit 15 3-point field goals and shot 55.4 percent from the floor in the game as the Gorillas knocked off previously undefeated University of Central Oklahoma, 84-71, Saturday (Dec. 8).
The Gorillas (6-1, 2-0 MIAA) got a game-high 18 points from Shelby Lopez. Lopez made seven of 10 shots from the floor, including four 3-pointers. Meghan Maher added 15 points — all via the deep ball — and Tristan Gegg knocked down four triples and finished the contest with 14 points.
Maya Williams also scored in double figures with 11 points, while Kaylee DaMitz scored five points, dished out a season-high 10 assists and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
The No. 23 ranked Bronchos (8-1, 1-1 MIAA) had three players score in double figures: Ireon Smith (14), Blake Blessington (14) and Micayla Haynes (11).
