Gloria Stephens

Gloria Clara Stephens, age 88, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Wildwood Memory Care Unit.    

Gloria was born March 16, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Daniel S. Hall and Ileene Lobbey.  She graduated from Joplin High School in 1952.   

Gloria was an avid sports enthusiast who loved bowling, golf, and the St. Louis Cardinals.  She was a longtime member of the Horton Smith Golf Team and bowled on several bowling leagues over the years.   

On December 26, 1954, she married Roy “Nub” Stephens.  They owned and operated Covert Electric Motors.  During retirement they enjoyed spending time at Lake Fork, Texas fishing, boating and kibbitzing with friends. She loved her family and will be greatly missed.   

Additional survivors include a son, Glenn Stephens (Beth) of Carl Junction, MO; three daughters, Vickie Gilbert (Verle) of Jasper, MO, Tina Schroer of Joplin, MO, Belinda Fleming (Billy) of Alba, MO; six grandchildren, Wendy Link, Zach Gilbert (Molly), Chad Hunter (Stephanie), Whitney Dixon (Andy), Kasee Fleming, and Beau Fleming (Abby); 10 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.  As well as several nieces and nephews.   She loved her grandchildren and was blessed to have had three five-generations during her life.   

In addition to her father, mother, stepfather James Lobbey Sr. and brother James Lobbey Jr., Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Roy “Nub” Stephens; son-in-law Kenneth Schroer, and daughter-in-law Deborah K Stephens.    

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bernard Bettasso and Staff, Integrity Hospice and Wildwood Memory Care Staff.   

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 26th 

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27th in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Bob Simon officiating.  Pallbearers will be Glenn Stephens, Verle Gilbert, Billy Fleming, Zach Gilbert, and Beau Fleming.  Honorary Pallbearer will be Paul Cossey. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association care of Parker Mortuary.
