Eugene Wilbert “Gene” Boxberger, age 90, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, formerly of Miller, Missouri, went to be with the Lord at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Saint Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born January 13, 1931, in Russell County, Kansas, the son of J. Benjamin and Lydia (Miller) Boxberger.

Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was the owner of Boxberger Construction Company. Gene was a cattle farmer and enjoyed spending time working on his farm with his sons and playing fiercely competitive cards and games with family and friends. He was a member of the Round Grove Baptist Church and was baptized in Spring River by Pastor Bob Holman. He attended New Home Baptist Church.

On May 15, 1960, he married Jacquelin Faye Matthews, in Ellinwood, Kansas.

Gene is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jacquelin; one daughter, Gina Boxberger, of Holt Summit, Missouri; three sons, Danny Boxberger and his wife, Dee, of Harrison, Arkansas, Matt Boxberger of Everton, Missouri and Eric Boxberger and his wife, Rachael, of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jake Boxberger and his wife, Angie, of Kansas City, Missouri, Chailsee Boxberger of Lockwood, Missouri, and Garrett and Benjamin Boxberger, of Springfield, Missouri and four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriel, Lucas and Adaline Carmical.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, J. Benjamin, and Lydia; four sisters and one brother.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, in Miller. A private family burial will be held at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions be sent to Folds of Honor Foundation, an organization that provides educational scholarships to the children and spouses of fallen and disabled service members while serving our nation or to the Saint Luke’s Hospice in care of the funeral home at PO Box 108, Miller, Missouri, 65707.
