Frontenac pulls away from Holton to advance to state championship

The Raiders beat the Wildcats 32-13 Friday night in the 3A state semifinals.

FRONTENAC, Kan. – The Frontenac Raiders are headed to the 3A state championship game, beating undefeated Holton 32-13 in the state semifinals Friday night.

Frontenac trailed 7-6 at half, but dominated in the second half to punch their ticket to championship weekend.

“It feels awesome. Ever since we were little kids playing pee-wee we’ve been wanting to win a state title when we were seniors,” says senior QB/DE Collin McCartney, “We watched the big guys play in high school and we knew it was our turn. To finally get to this stage and finally make it, we’re all happy. Emotions are over the roof right now.”

It feels great,” says senior RB/DB Mario Menghini, who scored three touchdowns Friday, “This whole summer we were preaching it, to work as hard as you can for this moment…and now we’re here.”

Frontenac will face Andale (12-0) next Saturday in the 3A state championship game.
