Frontenac advances to 3A state championship
The Raiders beat St. Mary's 3-0 Friday
EMPORIA, Kan. — The Frontenac Raiders will play for a state softball championship, beating St. Mary’s Friday 3-0 in the 3A semifinals.
It’s the second straight shutout for the Raiders at state, after beating Cheney 6-0 Thursday.
Karma Fields was great again in the circle for Frontenac, throwing a complete shutout, allowing just four hits on the afternoon. Senior Madi Davis was 2-3 at the plate with a solo home run. Bailey Rhuems also picked up an RBI, taking a HBP with the bases loaded.
“We were here three years ago in a similar situation and came home with the state title,” says Frontenac head coach Cassie Rhuems, “We lost ten kids from our program two years ago. This group of kids has just bought in and really stayed focused and really put a lot of time into the fundamentals of the game. They’ve given themselves a chance to be another state champ.”
Frontenac will face the winner of Silver Lake/Holton in the state championship on Sunday.
