Friday Blog: We get a break, but for how long? -Doug

I hope your week has been great and you are staying dry.  We have had so much rain the past couple of days, the ground is super saturated.  Here is why we have had the flooding.  This is crazy, rainfall amounts the past 36 hours.

In the purple are areas that have seen 8″ plus.  But on average, most areas have picked up 4-8″ of rain.  Even the areas in the yellow with the least amount of rain, we have picked up 2-4″ of rain.  We still have scattered storms tonight but Friday looks much better.  A lot of clouds, but not a bad Friday.

We really warm up heading into the weekend.  Temps will push 80 by Saturday.

We go well into the 80s on Sunday and stay in the upper 80s all next week.  We get a break from the showers and thunderstorms for the next several days.  Most of the storms move to the northern plains, but we still need to watch them as we could get a couple clusters trying to get into the area next week.  But good chances for thunderstorms don’t return until late next week and next weekend.  A lot of you have wanted me to do a long range severe threat map.  So I got this together for you tonight.  Now in May and June, pretty much anytime we have a chance for storms we have a severe threat.  The grey days are good days.  The yellow days are thunderstorm chances that give us a low severe threat.  The orange days are moderate severe threats.  Now remember, as we get closer, these can go up or down.  I don’t see an event that I can firmly say we have a high threat for severe weather looking from a ways out.  But I do know at least one of these days will go to a high threat as we get closer to the events.  So here you go.

Severe Breakdown
