Friday AM Blog: Warming up but so is the pattern
Warming up but so is the pattern
Good Friday morning! I hope you had a great week and of course ready for the weekend. I am going to take the weekend, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off. So I am looking forward to it. I can’t believe it is almost Christmas, but my shopping is done. I would like some good snow. Joplin hasn’t had a snow over 6″ in 9 years. That is crazy! We have had one 6″ snow, a couple 4″ snows, and a ton of 1-2″ snows. If we can’t get a good 10″ snow this winter, I am not going to be happy. Remember, we are still in the Heady Pattern and will be till next September, then the next one will set up. This pattern has some good potential for a big snow or two. We just aren’t getting the cold air that I was hoping for. Most people don’t understand how hard it is for us to get a good snow this far south. We usually only see a 6″ snow or better in this area only about twice a decade. It was a different story 30-40 years ago but with climate change it hurts us a bit. If we can get in the right pattern, we will get some good snows. I think this pattern has some potential, but I really think February will be our best shots. I will keep my fingers crossed.
As of right now, we are going to continue to stay mild. We do have a weak system moving in today.
Take a look at the radar below.
This will mainly stay south of us, but close enough we will have the clouds and a chance for a random shower late today and tonight.
50s over the weekend with 60s into Christmas Eve. We do have a system on Christmas Even and Day that I was hoping to have some cold air with, but of course mother nature and I don’t see eye to eye. So it mainly looks like a rain system.
The good news is this system will usher in some colder air and we have systems following it. The next one is next Friday. I think this could be a rain over to snow event.
Then yet again, another system in by next Sunday. So lets keep watching it.
Long range forecast through late next January:
Next Week: Warming up into the 60s early in the week. A storm system works in on Christmas Day with chances for rain on Wednesday. Another system in on Friday and Saturday that could be rain over to snow.
December 29th – January 4th: We will start the week with rain and snow chances on Sunday. Staying cool with rain and snow chances in for the New Year.
January 5th – 11th: Mild to start to the week with rain and snow chances on Tuesday. Cooler the rest of the week with showers possible on Friday.
January 12th – 18th: A cool first half of the week with rain and snow chances on Sunday and Monday. A little warmer late in the week with rain moving in on Friday. This could go over to snow by the weekend.

January 26th – February 1st: A cool first half of the weekw ith rain and snow chances on Sunday. Then a slow warming trend through the week with rain chances by Saturday.
