Four-State Staycation: Battle of Carthage Civil War Museum

CARTHAGE, Mo. – 160 years ago, on April 12 the Civil War began when the Confederacy fired on Fort Sumter in South Carolina. A few months later on July 5, the first full scale battle of the Civil War commenced in Carthage, Missouri. Today the Carthage Civil War Museum stands a reminder of that battle and city’s role during the deadliest war in American History.

The museum is open to visitors Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. On Saturday it’s open from 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday it’s open from 1:00 p.m. -5:00 p.m. It can be found at 205 Grant St, Carthage, Missouri.
