Five dead and two injured after an officer involved shooting in Springfield, Missouri

SPRINGFIELD, Mo – Four people, including a Springfield police officer, are dead  after a shooting at a Kum & Go on east Chestnut in Springfield, Mo. late Sunday night.

According to a police, on March 15 11:24 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of Battlefield and Lone Pine over a report of a shooting. Officials say they started then started receiving multiple shooting calls including one at 2100 S Ingram Mill and another at Sunshine and Hwy 65. The final one came at 11:43 p.m. at the Kum & Go on Chestnut Expressway. Callers reported a vehicle crashing at the scene with an armed suspect entering the store and shooting at employees and customers.

When officers Josiah Overton and Chris Walsh arrived, they were immediately shot by the suspect. Other officers arrived on the scene and pulled the two injured officers to safety. When police entered the store they found the suspect with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Three other people were also found dead in the store and a fourth injured by a gunshot. Officer Walsh would later die at the hospital.

Both Officer Overton and the other surviving shooting victim are receiving treatment at the local hospital.

Police have not yet released the name of the victims or the suspect. There’s no word on the motive for this shooting. The investigation is still ongoing.
