Fort Scott Preps for 2018
The Fort Scott Tigers enjoyed a bounce-back season in 2017. After going 3-6 in 2016, the Tigers turned around and went 8-3 last year, and winning a playoff game for the first time since 2012.
This season the Tigers have seven starters returning from last year’s team, all of them entering their senior season. Matt Campbell is making the move from tight end to quarterback to lead the Tiger offense. As a tight end last season, Campbell racked up 500 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.
Last year, the focal point of the offense for Fort Scott was the running game, behind 2,000-yard rusher Zarek Fewell and an experienced offensive line. Now, Fewell and those offensive linemen have graduated, and the Tigers will be bringing in more of the passing game.
“We’ll probably throw it a little bit more than we have in the past,” says head coach Bob Campbell, “We’ve got some guys that can handle the ball in space. We’ve got some skill kids. So for us, balance is typically a good thing. Hopefully we can get the ball to the guys who need it, get them in the open field and give them a chance to make plays.”
“We have a lot of talented skill guys this year,” says senior WR/DB Ty Gorman, “We’re going to have to have a lot of o-linemen step up, and just let the seniors lead this year.”
Fort Scott will open up the season at home against Coffeyville on the 31st. Below is their complete schedule.
