Fort Scott picked #1 in SEK preseason coaches poll

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Fort Scott Tigers are favored in baseball, while the Independence Bulldogs earned the top spot for softball in the Southeast Kansas League Preseason Coaches Polls released Tuesday (March 17).

The polls were conducted for the High School Diamond Sports Media Day presented by Pittsburg American Legion Post 64 Baseball, which was scheduled for today but canceled in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.

In baseball, the Tigers had four of the possible six first-place votes (coaches could not vote for their team) to finish with 34 points. The Pittsburg Purple Dragons had three first-place and three second-place votes to finish a single point behind Fort Scott in second.

The Chanute Blue Comets, Parsons Vikings and Independence Bulldogs were within five points of each other in the middle of the pack.

Independence had four of the five available first-place votes (two coaches did not submit ballots), to secure the favorites role with 31.5 points.

The Fort Scott Tigers secured the other first-place vote and finished second, followed by the Pittsburg Purple Dragons and Chanute Blue Comets.

It’s our hope these teams will be able to get on the field soon and find out if the coaches predictions are correct or not.

Tomorrow (March 18), the Three Rivers League baseball and softball polls will be released. The CNC League survey results will be posted on Thursday (March 19).
