Former Montgomery County Department of Corrections employee charged with mistreatment of a dependent adult

Montgomery County Sheriff Robert Dierks announced today that former Montgomery County Department of Corrections employee Thomas Roe had his First Appearance this morning in Independence, Kansas. Roe has been charged with two counts of Mistreatment of a Dependent Adult and his bond was set at $100,000 cash or professional surety. Individuals arrested or accused of crimes are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty.

Roe, a 43-year-old former Caney resident, was arrested at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office this morning. Roe has been residing in Colorado. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) has been involved in the ongoing investigation. The criminal prosecution will be handled by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office.

“I credit the KBI and the Attorney General’s Office for their pursuit of justice in this case,” stated Dierks. “We couldn’t be more pleased with how this investigation has been handled.”
