Former Joplin man arrested on suspicion of murder in central Kansas
WICHITA, Kan. – Police arrest former Joplin resident Jeffery Hill, 53, now of Wichita, for suspicion of second degree murder.
Authorities arrested Hill on Monday, even as they continue to search for the alleged victim’s body, according to Wichita police.
The Associated Press reports that Capt. Brent Allred said a man reported to police that Hill was involved in a homicide in December and the victim’s body was buried somewhere outside of Wichita.
Investigators determined the victim was Jeffrey Jones, 50, of Hutchinson, Allred said. Evidence and witnesses led police to Hill.
Hill was arrested after a brief foot chase when he fled from his vehicle Monday. Officers found drugs in his vehicle, police said.
Hill and Jones were acquaintances and police are trying to determine a possible motive, Allred said.
Hill has a criminal history in southwest Missouri. Back in 2015, Hill was shot by Joplin, Missouri Police when he drove toward officers. Police were responding to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex. Hill later pleaded guilty to charges of felony assault and driving while intoxicated in that case.
