Flooding rain in the Deep South

Additional rain possible today
precipitation weather map

The storm system that is slipping by with clouds and a few light sprinkles/showers this morning has really sprung to life across the Deep South. Yesterday, numerous areas in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee saw 1 to 3 inches of rain within a span of 24 hours. That has led to area flooding and flash flooding as the weekend gets underway. Even though these areas could see an additional half inch of rain, the bulk of the heavier rainfall for today has shifted to the east. From the Florida Panhandle into the Carolinas, these areas could see rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches before the system starts clearing out of the Lower 48 this weekend.
