Flip Shop Classic returns to Joplin

More than 300 athletes kept their heart rates up Saturday, meeting at MSSU to compete for the gold in a gymnastics competition.

The annual Flip Shop Classic kicked off Saturday morning at the Leggett & Platt Center.

More than 30 teams were competing across different age categories in events like tumbling, trampoline, and double mini.

Competitors from as far as Texas and Nebraska were looking to take home first place.

One organizer said her favorite part of competitions like this is the lifelong relationships that are formed along the way.

“My kids competed. They still have friends from the sport who are now coaching, so it’s kind one of those generation things that’s really interesting and a lot of fun,” said organizer Barbara Johnson.

This was the 23rd Annual Flip Shop Classic.
