First half surge lifts Emporia State over PSU
The Hornets finished the first half on a 14-1 run.
PITTSBURG, Kan. – (WATCH) Emporia State finishes the first half on a 14-1 run, going on to beat Pitt State 74-59.
RELEASE FROM PITTSBURG STATE ATHLETICS:
Jumah’Ri Turner and Tray Buchanan combined for 47 points to help power the Emporia State University men’s basketball team to a 74-59 victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Jan. 13) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Turner scored a game high 24 points, keyed by 5-for-6 shooting from 3-point range, to lead the Hornets (13-3, 8-2 MIAA). Buchanan added 23 points, including 10-for-11 shooting at the four line. The Hornets converted 18 of 20 charity shots in the contest. Mayuom Buom added 12 points for ESU.
Iziah James paced the Gorillas (4-11, 3-6 MIAA) with 17 points, while Cameron Huefner added 11 points. Pitt State shot 34.5 percent from the field (19-55) in the game.
The Gorillas will return to action Saturday afternoon when they play host to MIAA rival Washburn University at 3:30 p.m.
