The First Baptist Church of Carthage holds a freedom rally Every year to celebrate the fourth of July.

This year the church featured a documentary called “Photos in the Wind.”

It follows members’ efforts to recover photos lost in the 2011 Joplin tornado.

The church collected almost 34,000 pictures, and returned about 17,000 of them back to their owners.

“I felt strongly about this too,” says project coordinator Donna Turner, “That photos are very important and it just seemed like the right thing to do.”

“The photographs are extremely important,” says Pastor John Davidson, “They’re kind of like a moment in time of a family’s heart.”

Following the screening of the documentary, a church member portrayed Abraham Lincoln giving the Gettysburg address.

The crowd celebrated our freedoms by singing patriotic songs.
