Fireworks Sales Booming in the Four States
In an industry that makes almost a billion dollars each year, selling fireworks is a sure thing around the fourth of July.
But this year is a little different.
“Fireworks sales are up this year,” says Stephen Houser, President of Crazy Debbie’s Fireworks, “throughout the United States actually.”
He says that the increase in sales from last year to this year is significant.
“Sales here for us as a company are up between, I would say around thirty six percent.”
He says that unlike last year, the weather is helping retail stands sell more fireworks.
“Weather is a huge part. The ones thing in this business that can make us or break us is weather,” says Houser, “We’ve had lots of rain throughout the Midwest. You know there’s not a lot of areas that are worried about burn bans or droughts or anything like that, it’s very moist and everything’s green so that’s good.”
While Houser says that the main reason for the spike in sales is the weather, another reason is the fact that the Fourth falls on a Friday, giving folks a three day weekend. Customers say that having the extra time makes a big difference.
“If it’s in the middle of the week you can’t plan as much,” says customer Chris Martinez, “You can go out and do a lot more things this weekend.”
“You just have more time.” says customer Taylor Stepp, “and of course kids like to shoot fireworks so they’re going to be buying them and everything all weekend.”
Like every business manager, Houser is glad to see sales skyrocket.
“Sales up is great. We love to see that. What we really get out of it by seeing the sales up is we know that people are really looking forward to the holiday.”
