Fire destroys home north of Columbus, Kansas

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. – A fire destroys a southeast Kansas home and storage trailers.

It happened north of Columbus, Kansas off of NW Orchard Ln. on NW 6th Street. Columbus Fire and Rescue responded 6 minutes after the call. A house and 2 semi-trailers used for storage were on fire. They requested help and tanker trucks. Lola Township, Scammon Fire and West Mineral Fire assisted.

According to Columbus Fire Chief Steven Burton, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. They reported no injuries.

He estimates crews used around 35,000 gallons of water.
