Fire at motel on South Rangeline in Joplin

Best Western Oasis, 3508 S Rangeline, Deputy Chief Andy Nimmo tells us fire was contained to one room.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Monday afternoon just before 3:30 p.m. Joplin Dispatch were alerted to a room on fire at the best Western Oasis, 3508 S. Rangeline.

Joplin Fire, Joplin Police and Newton Co Ambulance responded. Redings Mill Fire were requested as mutual aid.

Room 149 located on the north side of the building. Flames and smoke were visible on Joplin Fire arrival as they were out for attack.

Deputy Chief Andy Nimmo tells us on scene the fire was contained to one room. It did not spread above or beside the room.

Fire was declared under control at 3:40 p.m. after the initial call of 3:27 p.m.

Apparatus on scene included Ladder 5C, Rescue 4C, Engine 4C, Engine 3C, Battalion 1C, Joplin Fire state in a release of information.

“First arriving units found one room on the first floor of the hotel to be well involved in fire and starting to extend to the second floor. An aggressive attack was made on the fire while additional crews made sure there were no occupants in nearby rooms.”

Also assisting today was METS ambulance, Newton County Ambulance, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Joplin Police Department.

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation.

No one was located inside the room or rooms surrounding the damaged room.
