Fewer candy Sweethearts available this Valentine’s Day
There will be less “Be Mine”, “I Love U”, “Mad 4 U” and other messages on candy hearts this year. The company behind Sweethearts, New England Confectionery Co. or Necco, was sold last year and the factory that made the “conversation hearts” was closed.
According to CBS, now the only Sweethearts left on the market are from before the Massachusetts factory shut down last July. The supply that remains can be found online. CBS reports a three-pound bulk bag of the Sweethearts will cost you $20.08 on Amazon.
The popular candies might be hard to come by for 2019, but the Spangler Candy Co., which acquired the Sweethearts brand, plans to relaunch the candies in 2020.
