Corona Train Depot: Railroad History

SCAMMON, Ks - Jesse joins Larry Spahn at the Carona Train Depot to learn about the history of the railroads in Cherokee County.

The Corona Train Depot is now a museum detailing the history of train and railway usage in Cherokee County while also still acting as an active railway used by Watco and other local companies.

The presence of railways in Cherokee County is due in part to the coalmines.  The railways owned the coalmines so trains would bring in workers and send out coal.

While trains may not be as prevalent as they were at the peak of coalmining, they're still seen all throughout Kansas carrying goods from one side of the country to the other.
