Families get together for Outdoor Kansas Day
PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department partnered with Pittsburg State University for O.K. Kids Day.
Families got together at Lakeside Park in Pittsburg for a host of outdoor activities, including canoeing and fishing.
Outdoor Kansas Day is meant to encourage kids to get outside and play, and over 250 kids did just that.
Juniors and seniors at PSU helped make the day possible through their program and design class.
“Students are there from the very beginning, in thinking of the activities that they want to be doing, that they want to be implementing. They are responsible for collecting donations and for finding volunteers, so the students really get an understanding of the entire programming process,” said Associate Professor Laura Cover-Miller from Pittsburg State University.
Kids also got to check out local police, fire and EMS vehicles.
The Kansas Wildscape Foundation sponsors the event.
