Ex-teacher sentenced for child molestation
JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – A judge sentences a former Webb City teacher and coach for child molestation.
Nicholas Popejoy received a sentence of 10 years in prison, but he could serve as little as four months. Jasper County Circuit Judge Gayle L. Crane also gave him 120 days of shock treatment. Following that, the judge will determine if Popejoy will serve the remainder of his 10 year sentence or be placed on probation.
The prosecutor’s office originally charged Popejoy with statutory sodomy for sexually assaulting a student in 2019. But in January 2021, Popejoy pleaded guilty to 3rd degree child molestation as part of a plea deal.
Popejoy was a coach and teacher at Webb City Junior High, but is no longer an employee with the district.
