MDC invites public to learn about fly fishing at program at Neosho Hatchery

Free Feb. 15 event is cooperative effort of MDC, Neosho National Fish Hatchery and MAKO Fly Fishers.

NEOSHO, Mo. – Fly fishing is a unique form of fishing that has its own set of equipment, lures, and strategies.

People can learn more about this distinctive style of fishing at the free program: “Fishing Skills: Fly Casting and Fly Tying” Feb. 15 at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery. This event, which is a cooperative effort of the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma (MAKO) Fly Fishers, and the Neosho National Fish Hatchery, will be from 10 a.m.-1p.m. The Neosho National Fish Hatchery is located at 520 E. Park Street in Neosho.

This event will have helpful information for both beginners and experts. Topics that will be covered include basic fly casting skills, simple fly tying patterns, and different strategies that can be used to catch species found in southwest Missouri streams and elsewhere. All supplies will be provided.
