Employers who provide childcare for the employees

JOPLIN, Mo. – Southwest Missouri employers see positive outcomes from providing childcare.

Over the past several weeks KOAM has highlighted some of the challenges parents face when looking for childcare.

Some of those challenges include:

  • Long waiting lists
  • Lack of childcare
  • Lack of affordable healthcare
  • Issues retaining childcare workers

With childcare already hard to come by in Southwest Missouri, what is even more rare is finding childcare provided by employers.

Freeman Health Systems is Joplin’s largest employer with over 3,000 employees, and they provide childcare with the Freeman Learning Center.

By having the center, they say that they’ve had better retention and recruitment of nurses in particular by having their own childcare facility.

“I’m able to go to work and really focus on what needs to be done with it right here on campus.” said Erica Messner, a Freeman employee.
