Elias E. Yanez

Elias E. “Pete” Yanez, 88, of Parsons, passed away at 8:10 a.m., Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society.
He was born May 23, 1930 in Parsons, Kansas to Romulo and Bernabe (Sanchez) Yanez. He grew up in Parsons where he attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School and Our Lady of Victory High School.
In his early years, Pete worked as a caddy at the Katy-Parsons Golf Club. He later worked in the Maintenance Department at the City of Parsons until retiring in 1993.
He was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Pete especially enjoyed spending time at the Katy golf course where he caddied for many of his family members and friends. He was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and loved watching their football games.
Pete is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Ruben, Jesse, Vincent, Sr., and Rojelio Yanez; and six sisters, Mary Babcock, Guadalupe “Lupe” Hernandez, Avelina Hernandez, Julia Yanez, Francisca Hernandez, and Transito Fuentez.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 29, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. The rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m., Friday, at the church prior to the Mass. Friends may call at their convenience from 1-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
