Students at St. Mary’s Elementary in Pittsburg spend the week learning about Pope Francis, as he touched down in America yesterday.

First graders made ornaments and third graders made puppets of the holy father to take home. Teachers hope the activity will help to open up a discussion back home with their parents about the pope’s visit to our country. We asked the kids what they would ask the pope if they too had the chance to meet him.

“I would ask the pope, ‘why did you wanna become a priest, a bishop, a cardinal, and then a pope,” asks third grader Ashlin Tyler.

“How was he having his stay here in America, is it good?” asks Hope Treiber.

“How do you like this much attention? Because he always has a lot of fans every time he enters a state or a country,” asks Mariah Harris.
