A chase began shortly before 12:30 am Sunday. Twenty five-year-old Cedar County Deputy Matthew Chism attempted to pull over a driver for having no headlights. The driver sped off and the deputy chased the car through town of El Dorado Springs, MO.

A foot chase ensued when a passenger in the fleeing car, William Collins of El Dorado Springs, jumped out said Sergeant Jason Pace of the Missouri Highway Patrol. Chism and the 28-year-old passenger were fatally wounded in a shootout. The driver was arrested at a nearby home.
