Don Spradling

Donald Robert Spradling, age 78, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022, at his home. He was born April 25, 1944, in Monett, Missouri, the son of Joseph Allen and Pauline Margaret (Ruscha) Spradling.

Don was a 1962 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and attended Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division and in Viet Nam as an Army Special Services entertainer. Don worked at Spradling Service Station in Mt. Vernon, taught Head Start in Springfield, drove a milk truck, was a custodian for the Pierce City Schools and operated the Walnuts Motel in Mt. Vernon and was a substitute teacher for several area schools. He was an entertainer playing TenTen the clown on KOLR channel 10 in Springfield for many years. At the age of ten, Don and a friend were featured on Ozark Jubilee then the most popular Saturday evening television show in America as “The Spider and The Fly”. He was a member of the St. Susanne Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.

Don is survived by three brothers; Joe Spradling and his wife, Bettie, and Bernie Spradling, all of Monett, Missouri, and Paul Spradling of Mt. Vernon; two nieces, Hollie DeBerry of Joplin, Missouri, and Bobbie Spradling of Mt. Vernon; several cousins and longtime best friend, Sam Jones, of Mt. Vernon.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Pauline, and brother, Martin Spradling.

A visitation, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the St. Susanne Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Monett, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the St. Susanne Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
