Authorities say a confrontation between a father and son sends the son to the hospital.

Around 1:00 this afternoon, Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at this home at 4285 Elm Road just south of Joplin.

According to officials, the father told deputies that his son entered his home upset, and the father shot his son in the abdomen.

Lt. Trevor Williams with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office says “Right now we’re processing the scene here, and we also have a detective with the injured person at the hospital, to determine exactly what the situation was and see what the outcome of charges will be.”

Authorities are not releasing the names of those involved at this time. KOAM/FOX14 will have more details as they become available.

“My younger brother was in a terrible altercation with his father which resulted in my brother suffering a gun shot wound + surgeries to repair his organs. And in result of that my mom has left her job to stay with him in the hospital while he recovers from his injuries that have caused extensive damage and of course a ton of pain and discomfort. He will be in the hospital for 2 more weeks and of course a long recovery process afterwards. She has a few expenses that she has had to neglect at home and she’s having to use what funds she gets for food and gas while in Joplin, Mo.
Any donations are greatly appreciated! This should have never happened. Thank you! God Bless!”
