Hoyt Daniel Cartwright, 72, departed this life on September 4th, 2020 in Oklahoma City, OK, following a long illness he valiantly fought. Hoyt Daniel entered this life September 8th, 1947 in Porterville, California as the first born to Hoyt Virgil Cartwright and Margie Leonia Hassler Cartwright.
Hoyt Daniel attended school in Porterville, CA. Where he graduated from Strathmore High School in 1965. He attended Porterville College. Hoyt Daniel enlisted in the United States Army in 1966. He operated heavy equipment as a Combat Engineer. He served in Vietnam, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Hoyt Daniel later enlisted in the Navy and served in the Seabees.
Hoyt Daniel married Emily Garrison Isley in 1976. Thus, becoming a step-father to Jerry and Glenda Isley. Hoyt Daniel became a father when the couple welcomed their own son, Joshua Hoyt Cartwright to the family.
Hoyt Daniel later met Carol Ann Jones in Aurora, Missouri and they were married in 1988. They remained happily wedded until her death in June of 2009.
Hoyt Daniel had a wide variety of occupations; his primary career was as an over the road truck driver for many years. He obtained a degree in Water Treatment through Crowder College and was employed by the city of Aurora, Missouri for several years. Upon retirement, Hoyt Daniel enjoyed bringing joy to all little kids as a professional Santa Claus.
Hoyt Daniel’s hobbies included reading, writing poetry, long letters and sending cards to his friends and loved ones. Hoyt Daniel was a nature lover and hunter. Many happy times were spent with family and friends on the creeks, rivers, lakes and oceans, swimming, fishing and floating. He loved competitive games like dominoes, cards, horseshoes, darts and bowling. He loved playing the harmonica. He loved his New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals baseball teams and the Kansas City Chiefs football team. He enjoyed westerns and all John Wayne movies.
His family was his greatest joy. After his earthly father died Hoyt Daniel became the family patriarch assuming the roll of the family prayer before meals. When distance separated us, he would lead the pray over speaker phone. Hoyt Daniel was an original, larger than life figure. He was kind, generous, adventurous and lived life to the fullest possible. He was compassionate, supportive and comforting to those suffering and a steadfast rock to those who needed him. People who had the pleasure of meeting him, never forgot him. Hoyt Daniel’s greatest joy was found in the time spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren.
Hoyt Daniel is survived by his son Joshua Hoyt Cartwright (Danita Gaut Cartwright) of Edmond, Oklahoma. His grandchildren Joseph Hoyt Cartwright, Keeli Anna Cartwright, Malorie Sateen Cartwright, Maizey Grace Cartwright and Marley Aaron Hoyt Cartwright. His sister Sandra McCorkell (George McCorkell) of Parker, Kansas. His brothers David and Dennis Cartwright, both of Neosho, Missouri. Along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.
Hoyt Daniel was preceded in death by his wife Carol Cartwright. Both parents Hoyt and Margie Cartwright and his nephew Benjamin Cartwright.
Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor James Lankford officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Joseph Cartwright-Brown, Joseph Candelaria, Jeremy Cartwright, Samuel Werner, Theodore Werner and Nick Harris. Christopher Cartwright, Kimberly McCorkell and Garrett Wencil will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
