Criminal pursuit in Neosho; suspect in custody

At about 1:36 p.m., June 5, officers with the Neosho Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Pineville Road in reference to trouble unknown.

After the initial investigation it was determined a female subject had been assaulted and held against her will. The female subject was able to escape her attacker and fled to a nearby residence.

Officers were patrolling in the area and located the alleged suspect driving a vehicle. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the suspect fled. Officers gave chase and the suspect was later taken into custody in eastern Newton County by the Newton County Sheriff’s Department.

The male suspect is currently being held at the Newton County Jail for 2nd Degree Domestic Assault, Felonious Restraint, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Driving While Revoked, and Fail to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending the filing of formal charges by the Newton County Prosecutor’s Office.
