Around 800 freshmen are beginning their journey at Missouri Southern State University this year.

Many kicked off the semester at convocation this afternoon.

During the ceremony, faculty and staff encouraged students to shift their focus a way from their high school goal of attending college, to a new goal of graduating college.

Students also learned about school traditions and the Alma Mater.

Each student received a medallion to wear at graduation, a reminder to never lose sight of what they are aiming to achieve in four years.

“I think it’s just really important for freshmen to feel welcome and to get their eye on the goal of graduation right from the beginning, from the very first day,” said Dr. Alan Marble, President of Missouri Southern State University.

“I’m very lucky and excited to be coming here with all these great professors and Dr. Marble,” said Ashley Burns, freshman. “I’m very thankful for MSSU.”

Classes at MSSU begin tomorrow.
