Community raises funds for couple after their home is lost in Christmas day fire

A Southwest Missouri community is rallying behind a family that lost their home in a Christmas day fire.

Christmas afternoon, a fire started at Lonnie and Sherry Evans’ home on Locust road in Jasper county.

That fire was put out– leaving the home damaged, but not destroyed.

Later that evening, the fire re-ignited.. and burned the house to the ground.

They lost everything but a few possessions. Now.. the community, and the Harvest Community Church in Avilla, is raising money to help them put their lives back together.

Waylon Miller, close friend and pastor at Harvest Community Church: “In the very first few days, they’re just doing the best they can.. getting their medications back, trying to deal with insurance issues. People will ask, what do they need? And I have answered the question many times, right now, cash is the best because they’re just trying, literally trying to get the minimum day to day things put back together.”

If you would like to give, donations can be dropped off at Harvest Community Church in Avilla on Wednesdays between 6:30 and 8:30 pm, and Sundays between 9:00 an and 12:30 pm.

You can also contact pastor Miller at 417-674-7977 for more info on how to give.
