After years in the making, the expanded Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas opens its doors to the public.

The center celebrated the opening of its $5.7 million addition with a ribbon cutting.

Guests toured the new building, equipped with a full service pharmacy, medical, dental, and mental health care.

The center first opened twelve years ago in a small double-wide trailer serving 6,000 patients, now the area demand is up to almost 40,000.

The health center’s CEO Krista Postai says “It’s amazing. It’s a dream come true. It’s unbelievable. If you told me ten years ago we would be at a center like this I would’ve told you you’re crazy. Now we’re all crazy happy, so glad that we were able to do this.”

The expansion was made possible by federal dollars, the Affordable Care Act, state, local, and private funding.

The center will soon offer hearing care, optometry in June, and walk in care seven days a week in July.
