Columbus RB Martin named Area Offensive Player of the Year
"Sports in Kansas" names Gabe Martin the southeast Kansas area Offensive Player of the Year.
COLUMBUS, Kan. – Columbus High School junior Gabe Martin has been named the southeast Kansas All-Area Offensive Player of the Year by “Sports in Kansas.”
“It means a lot to me. It’s really nice to see that hard work pays off,” Martin says of the honor, “I have to give credit to our offensive linemen. They stayed working hard through the entire year and never let up. They are just as deserving of this award as I am. Winning this award definitely fuels me even more for my senior year. It’s an honor, but we have more work to do as a team. I’m going to do whatever it takes to make a push in the playoffs my senior year and put the team in the best position possible.”
Martin rushed for 1,244 yards and 16 touchdowns in his junior season this fall. He helped the Titans finish with an 8-1 record, also adding 41 tackles as a linebacker on the defensive side.
He’s looking to do more in 2021.
“This off-season I’m really focusing on my explosiveness and speed, while also hitting the weight room every day,” Martin finishes, “Being in the weight room every chance I get is crucial. I credit a lot of my success to being up there (in the weight room). I will put even more work in up there my senior year. I can’t wait for the season.”
