Columbus 14U softball preps for World Series in Florida
The team will head to Florida this weekend
COLUMBUS, Kan. — The Columbus 14-and-under softball team has advanced to the Babe Ruth World Series in Treasure Coast, Florida.
Columbus won a regional title at home over the weekend to earn their spot in the tournament. The team will hit the road to Florida this weekend, with game beginning next week.
There are sure to be nerves for the team as they prepare for next week’s tournament, but head coach Aimee Saporito says in the end, they’re still just playing softball.
“We just need to remind them it’s a game,” Saporito says, “It’s the same game they play every day. We do want to amp it up a little bit, we don’t want to get in just the day in and day out, but it’s the game they love to play. Every team we face, we got to get it in their head that they can compete, and just go out one game at a time.”
The team has a GoFundMe page set up to help off-set the costs of traveling to Florida to play in the tournament. Click HERE if you would like to help out with a donation to the team.
“The girls are very excited. All of us are,” Saporito adds, “It’s something they’ve been working for…since last July. They’ve played together for quite some time, and they all have a common goal. This is something they all want. Every single one of them. That’s hard to come by.”
