Colgan preps for 2019 season

Colgan has been nothing but consistent over the years, and last fall was no different. The Panthers finished 9-3 and with a state semifinals’ appearance.

Colgan is in the middle of its first week of practice. They return eight starters, but the Panthers lost a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball due to graduation.

There is no doubt we will be seeing some new faces stepping on the field this season. Head coach Shawn Seematter says when it somes to game time, guys will need to step up and fill those important positions.

“You know we lost a thousand-yard passer and rusher at the quarterback spot, 600-yard receiver and another 900-yard running back, so a lot of production on the offensive side of the ball that we’ll have to replace. You mentioned some new faces, we’re very confident in the guys that were waiting in those sports to take over and fulfill those roles,” says Seematter.

“You want to get as comfortable with your teammates as you can. Even though some of those sophomores and juniors who didn’t get to play a lot last year, they’re going to have to step up this year,” adds senior Derek VanBecelaere.

Colgan opens the season with Columbus at home on September 6th.
