Colgan girls finish 18-0 regular season with win over Girard
The Panthers go 18-0 in the regular season.

GIRARD, Kan. – The Colgan High School girls basketball team finished off an undefeated regular season Tuesday night in Girard.
“It means a lot to us,” says head coach Abby Farabi, “We have our goals on our board, and our goal this season was 18-2, because we knew the league was going to be tough this year – but our girls were locked in every game and all of their hard work has paid off.”
The Panthers beat the Trojans 48-27 on Tuesday night in Girard to get to 18-0 overall this season. Lily Brown finished with 23 points, while Lauren Torrance added 10 points.
It was a much closer game than the team’s 61-27 win over Girard at home in late January.
“Girard came out and had a great game plan against us, and they played well in the first half,” Farabi says, “We didn’t execute as well as I would have liked. I told them at halftime to take a deep breath. It didn’t look like we were having much fun. We just needed to step back and take a breath…then we had a big third quarter and an even bigger fourth quarter.”
Colgan will now take their undefeated record to the 2A sub-state tournament in Uniontown, which is scheduled to begin next Monday, February 28th.
They’re hoping for a return to the state tournament – where they finished as 2A state runner-up last season.
“We’re excited to get started,” Farabi says about the postseason, “I told the girls after the game that we’re 0-0 now. We did a lot of work to get where we are, but now being undefeated really doesn’t matter. I love this time of year and I love how locked in the kids are. They’re ready for what the next couple weeks will bring them.”
