Colgan girls claim state golf championship

The Panthers had three golfers finish in the top 5.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The St. Mary’s Colgan girls golf team is bringing home the 3-2-1A state championship trophy.

The Panthers claimed the team championship on Tuesday afternoon with a two-day team score of 713. The Panthers were 22 strokes clear of 2nd place (Colby, 735).

Colgan had three golfers place in the top five: Ali Scripsick (3rd, 172), Riley Root (4th, 176) and Greta Ison (5th, 179). Brenn Beykirch finished in 9th with a two-day score of 186. Ellie Smith (T-18th) rounded out the team score with a two-day total of 200.

It’s the first state championship for the Colgan girls golf team in just its second year of existence.
