Colgan baseball prepares for state, seeks 17th title under coach Watt
Colgan set to face Valley Falls in the first round on Thursday
PITTSBURG, KS. – The Colgan Panthers are headed to the 2A state baseball tournament this week. The Panthers won a regional championship last Friday to punch their ticket to Great Bend.
#5 seeded Colgan is set to face #4 Valley Falls in the first round on Thursday evening. The Panthers are in search of their 17th state title under head coach Mike Watt.
Right now, they’re playing some of their best baseball, so expectations are high.
“You can’t really worry about anybody else but yourself,” Watt says. “Our schedule has prepared us, we’ve worked hard in practice, they’ve earned their way there. I fully expect us to go up and play well. Through our regional we probably played as well as we have all year and hopefully that will carry on to the state level.
Colgan center fielder and pitcher, Gianni Piccini shares the same confidence.
“I’m feeling good,” Piccini says. “I think we have a real chance to win it. I believe in our guys, so we definitely can get it done.”
