Coffeyville man to face jury; accused of raping infant
COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – A Coffeyville man will face a jury trial in December of this year after he was charged with raping an infant less than 18-months of age.
During a preliminary hearing on Friday, May 20th, Judge Jeffrey Gossard stated there was enough evidence to bring Archie Cannon, 57, in front of a jury.
Law enforcement officers charged Cannon with the following earlier this year:
- Count 1 – Rape; Offender is 18 or Older and Victim is Younger Than 14
- Count 2 – Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness/Victim
After the Montgomery – Independence District Court filed documents on March 8th, officers arrested Cannon.
Though court officials set his bond at $100,000, Cannon’s court-appointed attorney, Heath Lampson attempted to sway the court into lessening Cannon’s bond to $5,000.
Judge Jeffrey Gossard ultimately denied the request due to the nature of Cannon’s charges, according to court records.
While court documents do not show the exact age of the infant victim, records released show the birthday as X/X/2021.
