Coffeyville K-9 officer hospitalized in wreck with a school bus in ‘good condition’
No other serious injuries
Montgomery County, Kan. — Update: A Freeman Hospital official says the K-9 officer is in ‘good condition’.
A Coffeyville, Kansas police officer was seriously injured in wreck with a school bus Wednesday evening. No children on the bus were seriously injured.
It happened on US-166 Highway two miles west of Tyro, KS around 4:05 p.m. Authorities say a Coffeyville K-9 officer and a patrol K-9 were on their way back from routine training out of town. The officer then rear-ended a school bus that had stopped to drop off some students.
The Coffeyville Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to cut the officer from the patrol car. He was then life flighted to the hospital where he is now in stable condition.
None of the seven students on board the bus, the bus driver nor the patrol K-9 were seriously injured. The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
