Classic car owners and Mother Road fans paid tribute to the pre-interstate days at today’s Route 66 Festival.

In a proclamation this morning, the City of Baxter Springs formally changed the town’s name to Radiator Springs for the day, in honor of the festival and the area’s influence on the “Cars” movie.

Classic car owners drove 66 miles of the route as part of the festival, beginning in ‘Radiator Springs,’ with stops in Miami, OK and Carthage, MO, before ending the cruise in Galena, KS.

“I’ve always been fascinated with Route 66, anything with cars, I’ve always loved,” said Brent Mann, Route 66 cruiser. “I would eventually love to someday cruise the whole entire highway.”

The festival also included a celebration on Main Street in Galena, with several vendors, a sock hop and live music.
