City of Erie finalizes purchase of grocery store

ERIE, Kan. – The City of Erie, Kansas has finalized the purchase of Stub’s Market, the only general grocery store in Erie.

The former owners of Stub’s retired and couldn’t find a buyer, so the city stepped in to prevent Erie from becoming a food desert.

Cindy Garland will be the new manager of the store.

The store will be renamed “Erie Market.”

“I just hope that people that do want this grocery store come and shop here because they have to support it if we want a grocery store, and that’s the main thing, period…this thing will thrive if they just do some of their shopping here,” said Jason Thompson an Erie City Councilman.

City officials have said they are open to suggestions from the community on how the store could change.
